Charleston offers numerous lodging options and can get pricey in the downtown historic district, where everyone wants to stay.
A Days Inn motel (no-frills, clean) was a budget traveler’s dream. Centrally located in the historic center near the Market, it provided a great base to explore historic central Charleston on foot. Parking is extra ($14/ day on our visit).
When visiting Hilton Head Island , a condo at budget-friendly Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Club provided easy beach access, pools, and BBQ areas. Using the condo kitchen and common area grills to cook dinners was a real money saver. (A big thrill – spotting a wild gator in the ponds around the condo grounds!)
